For School Students

  • When waiting for the train, stand well behind the yellow line on the platform.
  • Make sure your school backpack is not over the yellow line even if your body is well clear.
  • Mind the gap between the train and the platform when boarding or getting off the train.
  • You should only cross the train tracks via a footbridge, underpass or at a designated pedestrian crossing. Crossing the tracks is dangerous and illegal. The current penalty is up to $5,500.
  • Please don’t push fellow passengers or run on the platform.
  • Please don’t leave your school bag in the way of other passengers, either on the platform or the train. On the train, please don’t obstruct the doors, stairs or aisles.
  • Inline skating, skateboarding and bike riding are not permitted on the platform.
  • If you drop something on the tracks, never jump down on the tracks to retrieve it. Ask a station staff member to help you.
  • Do not put any part of your body outside the train or hold the doors open when they are closing.
  • Students should not change carriages while the train is moving.
  • If you see something unsafe, don’t be afraid to speak up and tell a staff member.
  • Please offer your seat to other passengers particularly those who are elderly, pregnant or have a disability.
  • Ask station staff or the train guard if you are unsure or confused about what to do or where to go on your journey.

For School Groups

If you are planning school travel, please contact your local CityRail station manager. You will need to provide them with the date of travel, proposed time of travel, number in group, contact details for the school and the boarding station. CityRail will contact your nominated representative to advise you of the most appropriate arrangements for your trip.

  • We recommend that only small groups of up to 20 children and 1 teacher / carer travel together. Groups with larger numbers will need closer supervision and should not expect to travel together on one train.
  • Schools need to plan their travel in advance. During peak hour services can be very crowded. CityRail requests that school groups do not travel between 7-9am and 4-6pm.
  • Primary and secondary school children can travel in small groups of up to 20 children with 1 teacher.
  • Infants need closer supervision and therefore should have a minimum of one carer / teacher per five children.
  • Groups should be at the station at least 20 minutes prior to the train departure time. Allow enough time to buy all tickets.
  • Ensure that school children do not put any part of their body outside the train or hold the doors open when closing.
  • Students should not change carriages while the train is moving.
