Youth Safety Outreach Program

About the program
Almost every day in NSW, there are injuries or near misses and deaths that occur because young people are not aware of the dangers associated with being on or near railway lines. Sadly, many of these injuries could be prevented.

The CityRail Youth Safety Outreach educational program has been designed to help prevent injury and save young lives. The program is co-ordinated by Jonathan Beninca who was himself run over by a train when he was 19, leaving him with very serious injuries.

Today, Jonathan – who's miraculously alive and highly articulate – is a powerful motivational speaker visiting schools and community based organisations to raise safety awareness with young people. He talks with passion about about the dangers of trespassing on railway tracks and other related themes, such as safely using trains and public transport.

Jonathan is available to talk to your school or youth group about risk taking behaviour and the potential consequences of it.

"I was blown away by Jonathan’s story.” Jake, year 10

"Until I saw Jonathan, I didn’t even know what trespassing was. Come to think of it, I never really thought about rail safety at all.” Nick, year 10
